We offer a range of sustainability and building performance analysis services to help architecture and engineering firms, policy-makers, and cities understand and improve the environmental performance of built environments. Our services include environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) at various scales of products, buildings and cities, operational and embodied carbon modeling, energy simulation, daylighting simulation, and net-zero carbon consulting.

Net-Zero Carbon Consulting

Net-zero carbon consulting is at the core of our operations. With decades of experience in academia and profession, our team works with architecture and engineering firms as well as cities to offer advanced insight into innovative strategies to achieve carbon-neutral buildings. Our services also include consultation and support to achieve green building certification (e.g., LEED, CaGBC program, Living Building Challenge, etc.).

LCA and Embodied Carbon Modeling

Building embodied carbon is going to account for nearly half of the carbon footprint of the building construction industry by 2050. Therefore, countries such as Denmark and Finland and cities such as Vancouver have now established regulations to mandate embodied carbon and Life Cycle Assessment reporting for new construction projects. We conduct environmental LCA to assess and report embodied carbon and other life cycle environmental impacts of buildings. Because some regulations require the comparison of embodied carbon intensity of proposed design versus that of a baseline, we have also developed a rigorous methodology for baseline LCA modeling. As part of this process, we work with architectural designers in various stages of the design process to identify the opportunities to reduce embodied carbon content of design proposals.

Energy Simulation

Buildings’ operational energy is a major contributor to global energy use. We conduct various forms of building performance analysis including climate analysis, radiation analysis, thermal modeling, and energy simulation in various stages of design process to help predict and improve the thermal and energy performance of building design proposals.

Optimization and Machine Learning for building performance analysis

We use optimization and machine learning in our professional and research work to find optimized design solutions for buildings’ energy and environmental performance. Our published journal articles have documented the application of data-driven techniques to identify the building skin design scenarios that yield the optimized energy and environmental impact outcomes.

Training and Professional Development

With our strong academic experience, we provide training and educational services in form of workshop, seminar, and online and in-person courses, to enhance the in-house sustainability and building performance modeling skills of architecture and engineering firms.
